How to create an ISBN barcode

Books use a Bookland EAN-13 barcode based on an ISBN beginning with 978 or 979. Enter ISBN-10 to convert it to the corresponding 978 ISBN-13, or enter an ISBN-13 for validation. Hyphens are ignored. The tool checks structure and generates the barcode, but it does not assign or register ISBNs.

Use it in three steps

  1. Enter ISBN-10 or an ISBN-13 beginning with 978 or 979.
  2. Review the converted Bookland EAN and validation message.
  3. Download a vector SVG or print-ready PNG/PDF and test it.

Frequently asked questions

Can ISBN-10 be converted to ISBN-13?

Yes. The first nine digits are prefixed with 978 and a new EAN check digit is calculated.

Does this register an ISBN?

No. It only validates and renders a supplied identifier.

Why is the barcode EAN-13?

Book retail systems encode ISBNs using the Bookland EAN format.
